Ask God for Help

Before attempting to interpret a dream, always begin by praying and asking God to give you the correct interpretation. Not all dreams are from God, so you need His help knowing the source and also the correct interpretation.  In the Ancient Scrolls of the Bible, it says in the book of Genesis that (correct) interpretations belong to God (alone). Genesis 40:8: 8 And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.”

Only God can help you become more accurate. Most dreams come from our soul and anyone with a little training in metaphorical thinking and some common sense can figure them out. However, there are some dreams that come from God and unless He has allowed the dreamer to understand it, it will take a Christian who is a true servant of God, who has the Spirit of God, to understand what He is saying. Let us be clear to differentiate those who call themselves Christians and those who are true disciples of Jesus Christ and live a lifestyle of love and obedience.

Daniel was such a man for God. Even though King Nebuchadnezzar had an entire court of magicians, sorcerers, astrologers, Chaldeans, soothsayers, enchanters and diviners, Daniel was the only one who could interpret his dream, which was from God as a warning to the King. Even the King knew why Daniel was the only one able to interpret. In Daniel 2:8, from the Ancient Hebraic Scrolls of the Bible, the King had a dream no one else could interpret. After Daniel interpreted the dream no one else could, the King said to Daniel (Daniel was also known as Belteshazzar to the King), “Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.” [Daniel 2:46-48].

The King was so incredibly impacted by the correct interpretation that later, he declared it to all peoples, nations, and languages in Daniel 4:2-9, saying, “I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me. 3 How great are His signs, and how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation. 4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. 5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore I issued a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in, and I told them the dream; but they did not make known to me its interpretation. 8 But at last Daniel came before me (his name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god; in him is the Spirit of the Holy God), and I told the dream before him, saying: 9 “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you, and no secret troubles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.”

Notice, the King was very clearly aware that the Spirit of our Holy God was in Daniel and it clearly set him apart from all the rest.

Again, the King says in Daniel 4:18, “This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, Belteshazzar (who was Daniel), declare its interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.”

We see that the reason Daniel was able to reveal the secret of the message from God in the King’s dreams was because he had the Spirit of our Holy God in him.

It is the Spirit of God who reveals secrets and the only way to access them is by receiving the Spirit of God to dwell in you as a believer in Christ Jesus. Take a look at 1 Corinthians 2:9: But it is written, “No eye has seen no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him. 10) But God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11) For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12) We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God that we may understand what God has freely given us. “

What this verse says, is that only those who have the Spirit of God can know the mind of God and be given true understanding from His Holy Spirit. This happens (having the Spirit of God) when you are spiritually born from above, which means your spirit is born new with the Holy Spirit from God. That happens the moment you confess your sins, believe that Jesus is the ONLY Son of God (born of a virgin and sinless), confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior and ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit.

In John 16:13-15, it says, “13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth (the Holy Spirit dwelling in you), has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” WOW – it says that when we belong to God and He dwells in us, He will show us what the truth is in any situation and He will even tell us things that haven’t happened yet! Only God knows what we need to know and when we need it. He’s not a genie in a bottle or a fortuneteller, but He is a loving Father who loves to encourage us and give us wisdom.

God reveals secrets to His servants. Again, I’ll remind you that His SERVANTS are those who are truly loving Him and serving Him with their life and actions, not just someone who professes to be a Christian. You do not automatically become a Christian just because you go to church or you believe Jesus existed. You MUST live for Him and believe He is the ONLY way to God…to Heaven.

1 Corinthians 4:1 “So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.”

Proverbs 3:32 But His (GOD’S) secret counsel is with the upright. [Upright means righteous or those whose heart is right with God].

Genesis 40:8 And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.” This verse in Genesis reveals that God is the interpreter of dreams that originate from Him.
